Western Region G&T Report

January 15, 2009

Submitted by Janet Logan

Things seem to be going well in the Region as far as G&T issues go. There are a few areas of concern that need to be addressed.

Communications: check to see that all the contact information on the Western Region website contact list is indeed correct and the same for the A/AA League contact info. There have been many cases of undeliverable e-mails this season.

Check to make sure that everyone has my correct e-mail…I have not had a NETROVER address for 3 seasons and have announced this multiple times. The correct e-mail through the Region is gtwrra@wrra.ca and has not been gandt*** for two seasons. I cannot answer e-mails that I don’t get.

Just as many of you expect a timely response from me when you call or send me an e-mail, please reciprocate.

Quite frankly I am an e-mail person, I find it easier to work through the majority of issues this way rather than 2 or 3 days of telephone tag. If for whatever reason (other than you write to me or call me on a weekend, when I am typically out of town) I have not responded to you within 2 days call me or write me again. As part of your message please provide a “Coles Note” version of the problem.

Rules: Know them, follow them.

ALL Misconduct and Match Penalties must be reported within 48 hours by both teams.

If there is a referee comment on the bottom of the game sheet it is to be included in the Game Report Submission.

A and AA teams are required to fill out an Intent to Proceed form which includes two boxes that ask if they have read and understand the Wild Card and Provincial Qualification rules. Some have obviously checked the boxes and not read the rules.

Seeding of Teams: the seeding of the Regional B and C level teams is the responsibility of the Regional G&T and our Western Region Leagues and is based on the competitive level of all the teams in that age group within that League. Keith and I will be asking the Leagues and teams to confirm their level of play so that planning for Regionals can begin.

The seeding of teams at Provincial Petite, A and AA is the responsibility of the Provincial G&T Committee. This past weekend the committee met in Whitby and made the initial groupings for the Provincial Petite teams so that they may make their travel plans.

The committee also reviewed 6 teams that were registered as Belle A and whether their on-ice performance required them to be re-seeded to the Belle AA division for the remainder of the playing season. 3 of the teams were Western Region teams (Chatham, Exeter and London) and they will remain in the Belle A division. Richmond Hill (Shorkey) has been re-seeded to the Belle AA division as a result of the review and they are currently preparing to appeal the decision made by G&T (so I have been told).

Regional League Ad Hoc Committee: we have had two very successful meetings and are currently working on the Constitution and Rules of Play.

G&T Coordinator Position: I am NOT returning to the Western Region G&T Coordinator position next season.
