Western Region Ringette Association

Come Try Ringette – 36 events have been held this season in Ontario, only three in our Region. After completing and event, it is imperative that each association completes the event feedback form and sends it to the ORA office. Your association receives $100 to help offset the event cost and the government is providing additional funds to ORA to pay for the materials. Ringette Canada hosted a CTR event in Belleville that included gym Ringette as well as on-ice activities. The intent is to get a new association started there. If you know of any community interested in starting a Ringette program, please contact Jodi or me.

Jersey Numbers -- The Ringette rulebook states that jerseys must have a number on the front as well as the back. A membership notice will be issued to remind everyone that they must comply by the Provincial and Regional championships.

Pre-printed Game Sheets – The Whitby tournament was the first trial by the ORA office to generate pre-printed games sheets from the database. We have been given the go ahead for our Membership Services coordinator to use it for our prelims and regional championship.

Annual General Meeting – The ORA AGM will be held in Ajax this year June 5-7. There will be a vote to change to proportional representation at the AGM. 1 vote per 100 members. Small associations will have one vote and larger associations may have up to six. Also, Ringette Canada is looking for an interested host for the 2010 RC AGM.

Release Policy – In March the Board will be voting on changing the release policy from “closest association” to “chosen association”. Comments from local associations should be made to your MS coordinator as soon as possible so that the committee may make their recommendation to the Board.

Ontario Winter Games – The Canadian government has changed the CWG age to U20 so the Ontario government has changed the OWG age to U19. The Board approved changing the AAA team age to U19 to comply.

Board Elections and Committee Positions – At Western Region, elections will be held at our AGM for the positions of chair, first vice-chair and secretary. The executive appoints the coordinators. Anyone interested in helping at the Regional level as an executive, coordinator or assistant to a coordinator may contact any current member of the Board. If you are interested in chairing a provincial committee or running for a provincial executive position, please talk to me or contact the ORA office.
