Rules Changes, Clarifications & Reminders:
Coaching changes proposed by Ringette Canada.
Per WRRA Coaching Development, deadline has been extended to prior to Regionals to allow ORA Coaching to present trainings. For coaches requiring re-certification, this can be obtained THIS year by attending an Ethics workshop (3 hours – dates to be posted) and completing the online Ethics course (aka exam). Please watch the WRRA website for dates for these workshops.
This is a Ringette Canada requirement. While this will likely be a matter of discussion at the ORA AGM in the spring, exceptions cannot be made for teams affected by this in the current playing year.
The Adult teams of Western Region whom are represented by SWIRL feel that there is insufficient time line to complete this training considering that number of Western Region coaches in both minor and adult who will need to complete this. Most course requirements for Jan 8th deadlines can be fulfilled in Sept/October and prior to league startups. At this point in the year most teams are already experiencing a busy league and tournament schedule making it difficult for coaches to find time for an added training date.
Coach on Bench clarification for Sanctioned Play (from APD Manual):
3. ADULT SANCTIONED PLAY RULES
c. Bench Staff Requirements
i. Teams are required to have a Head Coach.
ii. Teams are required to have a non-playing member of their coaching staff on the bench.
iii. All Bench Staff must have proper qualifications and be registered on the T.R.F. Age requirements must be met.
ADP requires (for sanctioned play) that all teams MUST have a head coach. This person must be registered, qualified in the position, and present on the bench at the game. This person can be a player.
ADP requires (for sanctioned play) that all teams MUST have a non-playing bench staff. This person must be registered, qualified in the position, and present on the bench at the game, but can potentially be a trainer or manager.
This was brought into question by Stratford and has been clarified by the APD Chair at ORA.
Substitution Rules (for sanctioned play).
Reminder to all teams that substitutions MUST be preapproved for sanctioned play by the ADP of your home region as well as the ADP of the region in which you are playing. If you are emailing a request for approval, please include “ringette” in the subject line (IMPORTANT!) as well as the ORA numbers of the players home team, the team she is subbing for and her ORA number. If you do not receive a reponse within 24 hours, please ask again.
