Western Region A/AA League
G&T Report- September 11, 2007
Provincial Qualifications
Within Western Region all Provincial level teams are required to play in the Western Region A/AA League in order to take part in the Regional Prelims/Qualifier and represent the Region at the appropriate Provincial Championship.
Tournament Requirements remain at two (2) and one (1) MUST be out of region, both must be at the appropriate level and in Ontario. The changes are “These Tournaments must be completed a minimum of two (2) weeks prior to the first day of the Provincial event (A, AA or Provincial Petite) in which they are intending to participate.”
“Teams must provide confirmation of acceptance into tournaments to meet this requirement by February 1st or your Regional Representative selection process, whichever comes first.”
At the present time the “A” Prelims have no Host association. St Thomas had been approached but was unable to secure additional ice. Our target weekend is February 22-24, although the following weekend would also fit within the deadline.
The need for “AA” Prelims is still unknown. The possibility of teams from the Northeast is very real and this would put the number of teams over 10 in several divisions.
Wild Card Rankings
The multiplier has been capped at one (1) for both, number of tournaments attended and out of region tournaments. The maximum can be achieved with attendance in four (4) tournaments with two (2) being out of region. Check the ORA website for more details and sample chart.
In order to be considered for a Wild Card a team must also participate in the Regional Representation selection process that has been set out by their respective region i.e. Rankings or Prelim Tournament
Tournament Wild Card Ranking deadlines: “AA” February 13, 2008
“ A” March 5, 2008
Provincial Petite
There is no AA or A designation at Provincial Petite.
The G&T Committee has the responsibility of determining the competitive placement of teams in the Provincial Petite division. Teams will be ranked at the January meeting using their winning percentage as well as various cycles of stats of their on-ice performance to verify placement.
Teams at this level are required to participate in two (2) tournaments at the appropriate level one (1) of which MUST be out of region and in Ontario, up to and including the January G&T meeting weekend. This season the meeting will be held January 11-13th. After this date teams will be informed of the location of the Provincial event that they have been selected to participate in.
The teams selected to participate in the Whitby Championships will be placed into two (2) divisions based on comparative competitive levels. These divisions will not crossover.
Seeding
All teams are seeded by their Home Associations with their on-ice performance monitored by the G&T Committee on an on-going basis. “A” teams that have been identified for re-seeding to “AA” will be notified mid-December in writing and a final decision will be made at the mid-season review. Teams will be given an opportunity to respond to the recommendation of re-seeding prior to the mid-season meeting.
