Prelims is a mandatory tournament for all teams proceeding to
Provincials (except Host where applicable).
Prelims are run at cost, and
final cost to teams is calculated by the region and one of the following will
occur:
- Your team will proceed to Provincials and your association will be
billed for the costs of your team(s) prelims
OR
- Your team will not
proceed to Provincials and your association will be credited for the difference
between your teams provincials fees paid and the cost of Prelims.
Prelims
will follow basic tournament rules with a few key points to keep in
mind:
1. ALL substitutions (player and/or coach) require G&T
and/or coaching approval prior to the event.
2. ALL non round robin games will be
played to a win. This means a tie at the end of regulation time will go to
sudden victory overtime until a winner is determined. All Round Robin games may end in a tie.
3. The top teams will proceed to semi-finals and/or finals based
on points.
4. In the case of a tie, if all tied teams do not proceed to
semi-finals (or finals in U16A), mini-games will be used to determine which
team(s) go forward of the tied teams.
Prelims will follow standard
rules for Provincial Championships.
Notes:
U14A will play a full
round robin, with the top 4 teams going to semi-finals
U16A will play a
double round robin, with the top 2 teams going to finals
U19A will play an
unbalanced round robin with the top 4 teams going to semi-finals
Q&A from the WORL & WRRA General
meeting:
Q Does Prelims count for wildcard?
A No.
Only invitational tournaments count for wildcard
Q Is our team
required to attend prelims if we are pretty sure we will be attending provincials on
wildcard anyways?
A Yes. Prelims are mandatory for all team U14A,
U16A, and U19A.
Q Why are 18+A teams not attending
Prelims?
A Only 14 have applied to attend Provincials, so all teams
will be going. In addition due to the number of tournaments who cancelled
the 18+A division, most teams require the Ajax tournament for wildcard or as an
out-of-region tournament for Provincials eligibility.
